Home Owners Insurance May Cover Personal Loss Due to Theft
| You have purchased your home owners insurance and you feel safe that you have covered your home in case of fire, theft, or personal injury that may happen within your home. Did you know that your car insurance will not pay for the loss of personal property if you car was broken into and you loss your Lap Top or CD's or even your GPS. Yes there is a loss however you can call your home owner's insurance claim center and report the loss as part of your policy.
Read the fine print in your home owner's policy, there are clauses within the policy that directly relate to loss of property by theft. If you are a victim of an automobile theft, the car insurance will pay for the replacement or repairs, up to your own pre set deductible but it will not pay for the loss of unsecured items that are left in the car. Many of us have an IPOD, GPS, CD's or even carry our lap tops with us when we use our cars.
These items are expensive to replace. Before you call your home owner's insurance to make a claim make sure that you have your policy number, a police report, a list of items that were stolen, the approximate date of the items that were stolen, and the approximate oridinal value of the stolen items.
Your home owner's insurance company will need a comprehensive list and will make a payment to you at a depreciated value of your items. This way at least you will be getting something back to help you replace the lost items.
